I found a couple of really good new to me authors these last couple of weeks and I am super excited to see where they are going to lead me. :) Here are the books I want to share with you today.
Shoot the Messenger by Pippa DeCosta - 4 Stars ****
Lies aren't her only weapons against the fae...
In the Halow system, one of Earth’s three sister star
systems, tek and magic—humans and fae—are at war.
Kesh Lasota is a ghost in the machine. Invisible to tek,
she’s hired by the criminal underworld to carry illegal messages through the
Halow system. But when one of those messages kills its recipient, Kesh finds
herself on the run with a bounty on her head and a quick-witted marshal on her
tail.
Proving her innocence should be straightforward. Until a
warfae steals the evidence she needs. The fae haven’t been seen in Halow in
over a thousand years. And this one—a brutally efficient killer able to wield
tek—should not exist. But neither should Kesh.
As Kesh’s carefully crafted lie of a life crumbles around
her, she knows being invisible is no longer an option. To hunt the warfae, to
stop him from destroying a thousand-year fragile peace, she must resurrect the
horrors of her past.
Kesh Lasota was a ghost. Now she’s back, and there’s only
one thing she knows for certain: Nobody shoots the messenger and gets away with
it.
Whiskey, Vamps, and Thieves by Selene Charles - 4 Stars ****
Meet Scarlett Smith, Southern Vampire Detective…
Well, at least that's what she is today. Not too long ago
she was just a regular Southern Belle in love with her soldier, dreaming of a
life full of babies and white picket fences.
Then she died.
Now she's a vampire in a shifter's world trying to make sense
of her sudden thirst for blood and her strange ability to read the emotions off
of others. Especially as it pertains to death—she and death have a strange
affinity for one another now, but best not to dwell on that subject too long.
She's still totally just a normal girl, except now she solves murders and
drinks a little type-O on the side. No big deal, she's certainly nothing
special or amazing...right? Except every once in a while she senses something
stirring inside of her. Something dark. Something ancient. And something very,
very powerful. But for now it's just easier to pretend she's nothing more than
a vampire with a badge and a gun who just so happens to have the hots for not
one, but two different shifters one of whom is her step-brother.
No one ever said being dead would be easy.
Dream Warrior by Brenda Trim & Tami Julka - 4 Stars ****
Along the edges of darkness, a war of attrition rages
between the demon plane and the Tehrex Realm. Dark Warriors alone stand between
humans and the evil that seeks to destroy them. Zander Tarakesh, the sexy as
sin vampire king, leads the battle. Zander is battle-hardened and accustomed to
command, yet wrestles to regain control when his Fated Mate is propelled into
his world, bombarding him with unfamiliar emotions. His life depends on him
uniting with Elsie, the slip of a mortal, who unknowingly protects a vital
piece of his soul. Eradicating the demons will be an easier task than combating
her sense of guilt and betrayal to gain her acceptance, loyalty, and ultimately
her love. And, he must do this before she plunges a stake in his heart. One
thing is certain; the flames of passion ignite a fire in their shared souls…
Elsie Hayes’ life is shattered after the vicious murder of
her husband. Intent on revenge, she spends her evenings killing creatures
others only see in nightmares. A supernatural event teleports Elsie into a
world filled with violence, magic and unexpected lust and love when she is
thrust from widow to Fated Mate of the enigmatic vampire king. Can she lower
the protective shield around her heart, giving herself to a vampire whose power
is the very reason her life was changed forever?
Undercover Magic by Linsey Hall - 4 Stars ****
I've got two choices. Join the Undercover Protectorate. Or
die.
In a world of controlled magic, I’m an Unknown. Deadly
power, little control. I’m only alive because I pay a Blood Sorcerer to keep me
hidden. But when he comes to collect on the debt I can’t pay, one of his goons
slams me with a deadly curse. Suddenly, I’m out of options and out of time.
When I’m given a rare chance to join the elite Undercover
Protectorate and train at their academy to become an investigator, I have a way
to hunt the cure for the curse. They have resources I don’t. Easy, since I’m
broke.
Seems like a good plan, right? At least, until they tell me
Cade will be joining me on my hunt for the Blood Sorcerer. He's an actual
Celtic war god--and the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. The catch? I can’t let him
know that I’m an Unknown, or I’m out on my ass and deader than Hades.
Hired Gun by MD Cooper & Zen DiPietro - 4 Stars ****
Reece is all about her Akonwaran whiskey.
Well, that, and a good fight. If her job doesn’t give her
enough opportunity, her best friend Kippy will hustle up a brawl for her at his
bar.
Most of the time, she’s busy enough as a corporate fixer to
keep her satisfied. Some people call her a bounty hunter, and she does do a lot
of hunting people down. Her expertise goes much deeper than that, though, she
demands a steep price for it.
When her boss assigns her an unwanted partner, Reece is
further dismayed to find that he’s a gen-mod from outside the retro zone. The
last thing she wants to do is be a mentor to someone like that. She’ll scrape
him off if she can.
As they chase a rogue scientist out of the Machete system,
she’s looking for a way to get rid of him. That endeavor takes a backseat when
their search for the scientist takes them into greater danger than either of
them bargained for.
She’ll have to move fast and shoot straight to get out of
this one.
A hired gun goes where the job is, and doesn’t ask too many
questions.
As you can see, I had a fantastic reading week. :) I am excited about the books I've chosen for next week.
Thanks for stopping by,
~Michelle
